SPLAT LIGHTENING BLEACH FAQs
Bleach can be very irritating to the skin, especially your scalp. We recommend you apply bleach ¼ inch away from your scalp.
The key to avoiding this is bleach mixing, make sure to gradually add in the powder bleach with the Oxide. We recommend adding in half the pack of powder bleach, mixing, and then adding the other half.
Your scalp is very sensitive, and the bleaching agents are irritants. If during any time you feel itching, burning, wash off the bleach immediately and discontinue use.
Yes, wash hair well and dry completely before applying Splat hair dye.
Our lightening bleach lifts between 3-5 levels depending on your texture, density, and porosity. So, depending on your starting level you might not achieve a pale yellow with just one application.
We don’t recommend doing back-to-back bleach applications. You could be putting your hair in a risky position leading to damage and even breakage. If your first bleaching process did not lighten to your desired level wait at least 14 days.
This all depends on your starting level, whether it be virgin (non-color treated hair) or previously processed hair. Our bleach lifts 3-5 levels. So, depending on what your end goal is you might need to do two bleach applications. We recommend waiting 14 days between bleach applications.
Depending on how dark your hair is, to begin with, achieving a pale yellow could require multiple bleach applications as the bleach needs to break through your previous color and then lift your natural color as well. Attaining a pale blonde, with little to no yellow might require a second bleach application.
We do not recommend using foil as it insulates heat and can speed up the lightening process at varying rates. Since you can’t keep an active eye on it, it makes it very difficult to see your bleaching progress and you can risk over-processing your hair or even breakage.
Knowing your starting level can help you gauge your end results. For example, if you are a level 5 you are what is considered a Medium Brown, which means you can expect your end result to be between a Level 8 (Medium Blonde) to a Level 10 (Light Blonde)

Splat Semi-Permanent color is peroxide free and only has depositing capabilities. Splat color does not and cannot lift your existing color as there is no oxidative agent.
If your hair is already in a compromised position, to begin with, and you add Splat hair dye, a bright color, it could magnify already existing damage that might have occurred during the bleaching process.

If your hair is on a darker scale, then colors lighter in shade than your current color will not show. Our Semi-Permanent colors ONLY deposit and have no lifting power so if your hair is on the darker scale and you add a dark color (i.e.: Midnights) it can give you jewel tone/reflection of color.
To achieve the brightest and best results we recommend that hair be medium Blonde or lighter. If you want to avoid bleaching your hair and you are already a Medium Blonde You can apply splat color directly onto your hair without bleaching, but if you hair is dark it will give a tonal/jewel tone look and not be as bright or vivid as our box.

Yes, the level you bleach your hair to will affect the results. To get the most vibrant color, and achieve the color you see on your box, your hair will need to be a very light blonde. If after bleaching your hair it’s still yellow, dark blonde, or has a lot of orange tones in it then your end result will be darker. If there is too much orange in the hair this can alter the end color result completely. Read more about Hair Color Science and how to get the results you want here.
if you haven’t yet met your hair goal you can always purchase another bleaching kit and repeat the process, be sure to wait 14 days between applications.

Splat dyes are bright semi-permanent dye so they will not come out completely with just shampoo. Keep in mind that the overall texture, condition of the hair, and even the type of minerals found in your water impact if and how your hair takes in color and how it releases it. Here are some steps to help speed up the color fading process.
1. Use a clarifying shampoo and mix it with equal parts of baking soda and let sit for 30 minutes, focus on placing it on the color and not ALL over the hair.
2. Crush Vitamin C tablets and lather into a clarifying shampoo and wash, focusing on the hair that has color – lightly “scrub” the hair.
Please be aware that these recommendations can be drying to the hair, so we also recommend you condition your hair every time and if desired do conditioning treatments at home.
*Bleaching if not done properly can push color further into the hair cuticle.

To get the most vibrant color results pre-bleaching to the lightest shade really makes a difference. Maintain the bold in your shade by washing less, using cool water, and using sulfate-free products. The more exposure to water and direct heat (think blow dryer, flat iron, etc), the faster your color will fade. Heat protectant spray is helpful to maintain your vibrant hair color. We recommend trying our Color Depositing Hair Masks to refresh your hair color.
Not all color removers work on Semi-Permanent direct dyes so be sure to select one that does. Depending on what color you have and your next goal, bleach might be an option for you. Simply wash hair with shampoo and water, sometimes two shampoos are necessary.
Semi-permanent color (Splat Complete Kits, Midnights, Ombre Kits, Naturals, or 10 wash) Depending on the color you currently have and the color you wish to achieve you can go about going back to a more “natural” color a few ways.
1. Let your current color fade as much as possible and then color hair a “natural” color, you will likely need to go a little darker in order to cover your old color.
2. Bleach out your color, if the color you had is dark then you will need to lift out that color and that can be done with bleach, but this is a very delicate process, which should only be done if fully confident the application and processing can be done quickly as leaving the bleach on too long can actually push the color deeper into the hair cuticle.
3. Neutralize the color to achieve a more natural tone. This is most achievable when color a light shade.
After you have applied Splat Hair Color and let process for the correct amount of time per the instructions, we suggest you rinse with a sulfate-free shampoo and cold water. Keep your new hue fresh by using Color Conditioning Masques that deposit purple, teal, or pink color gradually with each use.
DOUBLE LIFT PERMANENT HAIR COLOR FAQs
Double lift is an oxidative developer + permanent color one-step process hair color. Original Kits contain 2 steps that include a bleaching process to lighten the hair.
The Double Lift kit works by lifting your dark brown hair color 4 levels before depositing its bold, permanent color. Double Lift uses a 40 volume developer to simultaneously lift your natural hair color and deposit one of our four shades. The color boosting formula is made with a direct dye base to achieve bold permanent color. *Splat Double Lift is meant for medium-dark and dark hair only. Application to light brown or blonde hair may not result in the represented shades shown here.
Depending on your hair length and volume will determine how many boxes you will need. We recommend if you have longer hair than your shoulders you should use two boxes minimum. If you have super thick hair add another. It is best to have more product to fully saturate your strands than too little during your at-home dying transformation.
We recommend not washing your hair every day, using a sulfate-free shampoo, COLD water, and use a heat protectant if you are going to use hot tools. Fading is normal so we’ve made it easy to refresh your shade when it is time to root-touch up.
We want you to get the best results with little damage to your tresses. Since previously-color treated or bleached hair has already undergone a lifting process, it’s best to use the Double Lift color kit on virgin hair or medium/light brown hair so that the ideal results can be achieved. Hair that has been previously colored, bleached, or darkened may not achieve the same results. Applying Double Lift Permanent Color to previously-processed hair will ONLY deposit color onto the hair. If your hair has been processed or bleached previously then Double Lift will lift your processed hair and virgin hair differently, which can lead to uneven coloring.
