It depends on the look you’re trying to achieve and the color of your hair you’re starting with. There will be less demarcation and more blending if you bleach the sections you want as bold color first, then can apply brown or bold based on the style you choose.

Melts is a semi-permanent color so it will not provide 100% gray coverage but will highlight hair.

It depends on your starting shade and if you have previously bleached or colored hair, but if used on bleach hair it will not turn blonde, green over time.

For optimal bold results, hair has to be light blonde or lighter.

It's not needed but results may vary. The brown color should give brown hair a richer, multi-dimensional chocolate shade.

If your hair is light brown or medium brown and want a darker or rich brown shade, then you can choose to apply the brown color. If you have black hair and wanted medium brown hair then yes they will need to bleach to get like the milk chocolate.
